What is Hot Stone Massage?

Hot Stone Massage has been practiced in other parts of the world for over 2000 years and is now building in popularity in Australia. It is a wonderful deep massage technique which is becoming increasingly popular due to its amazing beneficial effects.

Using special iron-rich basalt volcanic stones, which are pre-heated in water to a safe but effective temperature, this therapy works on three levels. During the treatment, the client is engulfed in warmth and comfort, allowing much deeper massage to take place. The energies from the stones promote a meditative and calm state, helping to relax to the deepest state possible and clients feel the warm nurturing and healing effects long after the treatment is over.

The stones come in various shapes and size, from tiny ones that are placed between your toes to big stones that the therapist uses to give a deep, relaxing massage, creating sensations of comfort and warmth. The direct heat relaxes muscles, allowing manipulation of a greater intensity than with regular massage.

In cases of muscular injury and inflammation, frozen marble stones are used. The warmer stones expand the blood vessels, causing a sedative effect on the nervous system and the cold stones cause the blood vessels to constrict, stimulating the nervous system. This ensures that every cell in the body receives more oxygen and nutrients while at the same time waste material is removed more effectively through the corresponding increase in lymph flow.
